HYBRIDIZATION AS A RESOURCE

DESIGNING AND LIVING CHANGING SPACES

AMTh Study Day / Wednesday May 27, 2020 / École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon

Long reserved for biology, the term hybridization now extends its field of application. However, at a time when hybrid seeds are so much talked about, it is sometimes difficult to consider the term hybridization through the lens of optimism. In its contemporary sense, hybridization indeed becomes an almost unavoidable process of creation and design, capable of providing solutions in a constantly changing world. The deconstruction of fundamental principles, in favor of new, more hybrid forms, with which our era is now associated, raises questions about the ways in which we conceive of our territories and in which we inhabit them (Gwiazdzinski, 2016).

In the academic environment, double or triple training is becoming more and more frequent, thus increasing the possibility of pursuing a course which is essentially hybrid. Likewise, in the professional world and particularly in the urban and architectural professions, the versatility of profiles is now favored, tending more and more towards interdisciplinarity.

Within the framework of the AMTh seminar organized by the students, we propose to initiate a reflection around the means of design and the ways of living in these new spaces in mutation. The subject will be structured along three axes respectively focused on the notions of uses, territories and practices, and approached from the field of reflection offered by the hybridization process.
